MAY ARTS AND MOORE COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN COLLABORATE ON DESIGNS FOR 2014
After submitting their designs last year, May Arts chose one student’s nautical design for production
(PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania)– Ribbon wholesaler May Arts announced the winner of the design collaboration with students at the Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia today. The winning design came from sophomore student, Helga Gardner.
The partnership was started in the spring semester of May 2013. As part of the partnership, students had to submit trend research to back up the designs they submitted. The trend research was extremely important to May Arts, as this is part of their design process when designing new releases. Gardner’s inspiration board for her designs was derived from trend research that named nautical patterns as one of this year’s biggest trends. Among her design ideas, were satin cutouts in internationally known sailing motifs.
“We loved Helga’s idea of adding to our current satin cutout line, because the nautical theme was something we do not have representation of in our catalog. The satin cutouts are extremely popular, and when we saw what she presented, we knew it would be a big hit.” said creative director, Elyse Duffey.
The three designs come in popular May Arts colors; blue, red, and gold. They went into production in April, and are now available for sale on MayArts.com, at regional trade shows, or through May Arts’ network of sales representatives. May Arts plans to continue the partnership with Moore College of Art & Design this upcoming fall, and hopes to release more student designed lines with the next round. The partnership is part of May Arts’ goal to promote up-and-coming designers, as well as delivering innovative designs to meet market demands.
