Fun DIY: Easy Crochet Headbands
I was cruising through the Internet when I came across this pair of big blue eyes. Yep, I’m a goner when it comes to baby blues…or greens or browns. 🙂
My eyes quickly moved from those pretty eyes to the adorable little headband on her head and I knew I could re-create it using May Arts Ribbon.
Since we have a new Ribbon Baby on the team (yes, she has gorgeous eyes!), I knew right where I could send them.
Next, I had to decide which of our gorgeous ribbons would be soft and comfortable as well as easy to crochet.
I finally chose May Arts Satin String. I think they turned out so much prettier with the Satin String than the yarn sample, and as a bonus, they have a bit of stretch for easy fitting.
I changed the instructions a bit to accommodate the thicker string. Here’s what you’ll need:
- May Arts Satin String
- Crochet Hook size J
- 2 Hole Buttons
- Alene’s Fabric Fusion or other fabric glue
Measure the baby’s head (you can also do this for older children/adults). The Ribbon Baby needed a 15” headband.
Leaving a 2-3” tail, chain 60-70 stitches. I crochet tightly so I chained 70.
Beginning in the second chain from the hook double crochet in the back of every other stitch.
If you’ve never crocheted this is an easy first project. Just follow the links above to the Craft Yarn Council for step-by-step instructions for both stitches.
When you reach the last stitch, cut your string the same length as your beginning tail. (2-3”)
Make sure your button can fit through the holes in the headband.
Tie the ends then thread each end through the holes in the button. Tie a square knot and secure with fabric glue. Clip ends.
That’s it! In about 15 minutes, you can have an adorable headband for mere pennies.
