Hi and welcome to the May Arts Blog. I love the ribbons the Ribbon Lady chose for this year’s Halloween challenge! They had such great texture and perfect Halloween colors. I just needed some inspiration!
As I was flipping through some catalogs that came in the mail, I found this:

Adorable, right? But at $199 it’s waaay out of my budget so I grabbed my craft store coupons and headed out to see if I could find something close to recreate it, May Arts style
Here’s what I came up with: a witch’s hat for $1.79 ($2.99 -40%coupon) and a pair of witch’s legs for 11.99 (19.99-40% coupon) for a total of about $14 with tax.
Using only the challenge ribbon, hot glue, a needle and thread, and some sparkly leaves that were in my stash, here’s what I came up with:
I love it! I made a vertical centerpiece vertical instead of the horizontal decoration which suits my dining room table perfectly.
I hand pleated and hot glued May Arts Sheer Spider Web around the top edge of the brim, then tied loose knots and glued Pom-Pom Edged Wired Ribbon around the base. I covered my pleats with 3/8” Grosgrain, and then loosely wound Burlap String Ribbon over the Pom Pom Ribbon to look like spider webs.
I changed out the ribbon that was on the witch legs as well. May Arts Ribbon is much more beautiful and the quality allowed me to use much less than was on the legs originally.
With all of that hot gluing, I ended up with a couple of areas that had some gloppy glue showing but I found a literally hot glue life changing idea for removing hot glue. Are you ready? Rubbing Alcohol! You can find a video tutorial here for how to apply it and then just peel it off. 🙂 Insert happy Ribbonista here!
Thanks for joining us for the May Arts Halloween Challenge today. We hope we’ve inspired you to re-create those pricey home décor items for pennies with beautiful May Arts Ribbons!
