Make this sweet heart-shaped ribbon wreath with just a couple of items from your closet, pipe cleaners and a selection of your favorite May Arts ribbon!
To begin, start with two wire coat hangers. Pull each one into a diamond shape as shown below:
Using wire cutters, snip away the hanger part. The intention is to have one of the hangers smaller so that it can nest within the larger one. Shape the hangers into hearts until the desired size and affect has been achieved. Twist the ends together:
Cut a standard pipe cleaner (chenille stem) in half and then wrap the pieces around several sections of the nested hearts:
Depending on the look that you like (longer or shorter tails), cut lengths of ribbon between 4″-6″. Wrap the ribbon around BOTH sections of the wire heart shape and tie into a knot.
Trim the ends at an angle, straight, dovetailed or a combination!
For the hanger, cut a length of ribbon between 10″-12″, create a loop and then glue to the back of the wreath.

This is awesome!I I can see making different shapes for different holidays….these would make cute Christmas gifts!! Thank you so much for sharing.
So fun- love how you created your own shape!
I Love this project! I did not buy enough ribbon the first time I made it, I bought 4 rolls of 8 ft ribbon and had to go buy 4 more to complete the project. Beautiful when finished.
Beautiful project and it is simple to make
Very nice and simple to make. Thank you!
Question…how many rolls (or yards) of ribbon did it take to complete?
So adorable, but it want to buy enough the first time
Thanks!
Hi Barbara! If you’re using a mix of 1″- 1.5″ and 5/8″ ribbon then I would say approximately 6 feet of ribbon PER ribbon; I used four different types of ribbon on the wreath. And you can space them out even more if you need too. I cut each piece between 4-6″ and then tied them into knots and trimmed 🙂 Hope that helps! Have fun!
Thank you! Love this for Valentine’s Day, thinking I will change design to an egg with Easter ribbons for Easter and other holidays…
Oh that’s a GREAT idea! Love it!
