Make Your Own Glasses Case
Hi all! Johanna here with a project for us four-eyes who tend to lose glasses like it’s an Olympic sport. It seems like I buy a new pair of glasses every week and I still don’t have a pair when I need them, especially if I’m looking through the bottomless black hole of my purse.
But no more! You can make this cute glasses case using your favorite May Arts ribbon and attach it to the inside of your purse, that way they’re never far from reach.
You’ll want to choose a ribbon that is wide enough to function as a case, so I chose May Art’s 4” solid/wired/wrinkled ribbon in fuchsia. As an added bonus, this ribbon is wired and thus molds really easily into the shape you want and stays put!
The supplies you’ll need are:
- 1/2 yard May Arts 4” Solid Wrinkled Wired ribbon
- 1 yard May Arts 5/8” Velvet Animal Print ribbon
- needle and thread matching your ribbon color
- key ring
- glasses, if you can find them
To get started, lay your wired 4” ribbon down flat on your workspace, and fold to form a case about the length of your glasses. Make sure the back half is about 4 inches longer than the front, so that you can fold it over to keep the case closed. Once you have the right length, trim the excess off and cut the same length from your Velvet Animal Print ribbon, plus about 10 inches. The reason for the extra 10 inches is that you’ll need excess velvet ribbon to tie into a bow as the closure for your case. Now sew your velvet ribbon to your wired ribbon, keeping it centered all the way up. Leave an extra 5 inches off each end to tie later, like this:
Once you reach the top of the case, slip your key ring into the velvet ribbon before sewing the rest down.
Finally, sew up the edges of your case up to the opening, and voila! A place to store your glasses, as soon as you can find them again.
