Make Your Own Altered Notebooks

School is out and the official start of summer has arrived.  It won’t be long until the kids are off to some kind of summer camp adventure.  We know they’re going to have to write the “What I did on my Summer Vacation” paper when school resumes again so I thought having a fun place to record those special summer memories might making writing a more enjoyable chore.

I created a trio of fun camping notebooks using May Arts Burlap String (SM10) and Burlap Cord (SP10) paired with the adorable papers and embellishments from October Afternoon’s Campfire Collection. I absolutely ADORE this line of fun papers.  They’re perfect for boys or girls and creating everything from scrapbooks and cards to altered projects.

I used regular composition notebooks that I picked up at my local “W” store for $1.00 when school supplies were on sale at the beginning of school year.

I love the whimsical animals and fun sentiments.  May Arts Burlap Cord is tied into a proper camp style square knot.

The rustic texture of the burlap cord is a perfect accent to the camping theme.

The insides are finished to match!

A small 5” x 3” spiral notebook is perfect for tucking into a pocket or backpack to write down all the sights along the hiking trails.  May Arts Burlap String, a wood button and some inked distressing add texture and interest.

You can find the tutorial and basic supply list for altering notebooks here on the May Arts Blog.

Beautiful job on these project.  I love having a special journal along with me on vacations.  I always think I will remember everything, but when I write it down and then read it months or years later, I find that I have forgotten a lot of what I thought I'd never forget.  These journals will be precious when the kids are older.
